MEMPHIS, T.N. — After dropping the first two sets on the final day of the SIAC West Crossover, the Allen University volleyball team rallied to defeat Miles College in a five-set thriller Saturday (23-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 16-14) as multiple Yellow Jackets set new career marks.
Maliyah Spencer and Dazzalon Larkins each recorded career-highs with 23 kills and 22 kills, respectively, to lead the charge for the Yellow Jackets' attack. Joining them in double-figures and also rewriting her career history was junior middle Jani Smith with 12 kills and a team-best .500 hitting percentage. For the second consecutive day, setter Zyara Harrison reached at-least 30 assists with a new career-best of 35 in the victory. Sa'Nyah Daly joined Harrison in aiding Allen's efforts with 16 assists, marking the fourth time the freshman has climbed into double-digits this season. The Yellow Jackets recorded 10 block assists between Taylor Lawrence (5), Sydney Ross (4), and Tahmiah Lawson (1). Dacia Lowery also had a solo block. Sophomore libero Myra Lopez stopped a plethora of Miles' attacks as she had 36 digs to add to her SIAC leading total of 251 this fall. Larkins posted her second double-double of the week with 13 digs to pair with her 22 kills. Harrison also added 12 digs in Saturday's effort.
The Yellow Jackets return home for a match this Thursday, October 17 at 6:30 p.m. against Johnson and Wales University.
