Allen Takes Down Tuskegee at Day One of SIAC West Crossover

MEMPHIS, T.N. — On the opening day of the SIAC West Crossover, the Allen University volleyball team split the two games they played. To begin the day, Allen defeated Tuskegee in four sets (25-23, 23-25, 25-17, 25-14), and ended the afternoon with a three-set defeat to Spring Hill (7-25, 12-25, 21-25. 

GAME ONE - Allen 3, Tuskegee 1
As a team, Allen recorded a .385 hitting percentage and was led by junior outside hitter Maliyah Spencer's dominant outing. The Surprise, Arizona native matched her career-high of 21 kills in 32 attacks for a .563 hitting percentage. Joining Spencer leading the charge for the Yellow Jackets was Dazzalon Larkins who posted her first double-double of the season with 14 kills and a team-best 12 digs. Taylor Lawrence also played a critical role in the victory as she tallied seven kills to pair with three blocks. Junior setter Zyara Harrison reached 30 assists for the first time this season to help Allen's efforts. 

GAME TWO - Spring Hill 3, Allen 0
In the second match of the afternoon, the Yellow Jackets fought a tough battle against the defending SIAC champion Badgers. Again, Spencer led Allen in kills with eight, followed by junior Jani Smith with four kills in eight swings. Defensively, Myra Lopez reached double-figures with 10 digs in the match. 

Allen will conclude their stay in Memphis with a match tomorrow, Saturday, October 12 at 9:00 a.m. against Miles College.
