TUSKEGEE, AL --- Despite a season-best 20 points from
Malik Lacewell, Allen Men's Basketball was unable to overcome Tuskegee Thursday, falling 73-70 in overtime.
The Yellow Jackets took a 32-27 lead into halftime after knocking down seven three-pointers – the second most in a first-half this season for Allen.
In total the second half saw eight lead changes, but likely none more important than Tuskegee's Julian Watson sinking a three-pointer with 12 seconds remaining to give the Tigers a 60-59 lead. However, on the ensuing possession, junior guard
Talton Jones was fouled and made one of his two free throws to tie the game and ultimately force overtime.
With 3:29 left in overtime, Tuskegee grabbed a one-point lead and never surrendered it back to secure the victory.
"Disappointing loss," said Coach Shawn Walker. "We have a major issue finishing games. We will have to improve our play once the game clock gets short."
As Lacewell's season-best performance led the Yellow Jackets,
Tyriq McAdoo also tallied 10 points and eight rebounds while Jones and
Peyton Weathersby each finished with nine points in the loss.
Thursday marked Allen's first overtime loss of the season after winning their first two extra-time contests against Morris and Central State earlier in the season.
