ATLANTA, GA --- Second-half shooting struggles hindered Allen men's basketball Saturday afternoon at Morehouse College, as the Yellow Jackets fell to the Tigers, 59-57.
After starting the second half ahead, 32-27, Allen held strong to their close lead until less than six minutes remained in the contest, before Morehouse mounted a comeback and took a 49-46 lead. Never trailing by more than five points, the Yellow Jackets battled to keep the SIAC matchup close in the waning moments. With 11 seconds left, down 59-54,
G'Shan Aldridge found
Malik Lacewell in the right corner to connect on a three-point shot. On the ensuing inbound, Allen forced a jump ball and won back the final possession from the Tigers. With hopes of either tying the game or winning it outright, Aldridge attacked the basket along the left side of the lane, yet, his layup would bounce-off as the final buzzer sounded.
Allen's
Austin James led all scorers with a game-high 16 points, including 14 in the first half.
Talton Jones and
Jordan Edmond each added seven points in Saturday's effort as the duo combined to make seven free throws.
The Yellow Jackets will stay in Georgia's capital city for their first meeting of the season against Clark Atlanta Monday, January 15 at 7:30 p.m.
