COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Allen University women's soccer team scored two late goals in the second half but could not complete the comeback in falling 4-2 to CIAA foe Virginia State University at home on Friday afternoon.
VSU got off to a quick start scoring in the 27th and 35th minute of the first half while adding one more just one minute into the second half to take a 3-0 lead. The Lady Trojans then scored their final goal of the game just two minutes later in the 48th minute to take a commanding lead.
Senior striker
Shakeryah Passmore led Allen scoring two goals on 3 shots on goal. She scored her first in the 55th minute off an assist from freshman defender
Lillian Smith while Passmore then scored late in the 87th minute to draw Allen to within two. However, the Jackets could not find the back of the net over the final few minutes.Â
The Yellowjackets missed a golden opportunity to get within one goal midway through the second half when VSU was called for a foul in the box. Senior forward
Acacia Small then stepped up to attempt a penalty kick but her attempt was saved by the Trojan keeper.Â
Freshman forward
Tatyana Machado also had numerous opportunities to get AU on the board in the first half, but her shots went just wide of the net. Machado led Allen with 5 total shots and 2 on goal. Small and Passmore also each attempted three shots each. Allen finished leading the shot count 15-14 while VSU led 12-9 on shots on goal.
Goalkeepers
Jaden Keys and freshman Rianda Pimineto-Solano each allowed two goals apiece with Keys playing 66 minutes making 7 saves while Solano made one save in nearly 24 minutes.
Allen falls to 1-8 on the season while VSU improves to 2-4-2. The Yellow Jackets will now have a week off until next Sunday when they go on the road to face Bluefield State at 1:00 pm.
