Yellow Jacket Soccer's Late Charge not enough in 3-1 loss at Albany State

ALBANY, Ga. - The Allen University women's soccer team traveled down to Albany on Wednesday evening but fell to SIAC foe Albany State 3-1 on the road.

ASU got out to a quick 1-0 lead scoring in the 6th minute of action, but the Lady Yellow Jackets came right back and tied the match at one just 10 minutes later as freshman forward Tatyana Machado scored in the 17th minute.
ASU would then take a 2-1 halftime edge by scoring in the 40th minute on a penalty kick after back-to-back fouls from Allen inside the box. Allen only trailed 9-5 in shots after the first half.

In the second half, ASU extended their lead to 3-1 with a quick goal in the 47th minute of action. ASU then was given a red card in the 75th minute as Allen looked to change the momentum as they now held a man-advantage. However, a terrific shot from Machado to the bottom left of the goal was just barely saved the Lady Ram keeper.

Allen then made a last-minute attack in the 84th and 85th minutes with back-to-back shots from Machado and junior midfielder Tonie Sledz were both saved in the center of the goal. A final shot on goal from freshman midfielder Alexia Velasquez to the bottom left corner was also saved by the Ram keeper as ASU held off the hard-charging Yellow Jackets 3-1.

Allen led 7-6 in shots in the second half with their strong effort while ASU held the final shot tally, 15-12. Sophomore GK Jaden Keys played all 90 minutes making 5 saves on 8 shots on goal while Machado led AU with 5 shots on goal.

Allen falls to 1-7 on the year while Albany improves to 1-6. AU will return home Friday to host CIAA foe Virginia State at 1:00 PM from the SC United Complex off I-20.
