FORT VALLEY, GA - The Allen University softball team fell in both games of their SIAC doubleheader on the road at Fort Valley State on Saturday afternoon.
Senior pitcher
Daeshonna Beckham-Timmons led the team by striking out 10 wildcats over her nine combined innings on the afternoon in both games. She also recorded a hit in game one.
FVSU won game one 13-1 in 5 innings as Allen recorded 5 hits and held the Wildcats to just ten, but 4 errors committed by the Jackets made the difference.
Leading offensively in hits for Allen in game one was 3B
Jasmine Blaxton as she knocked two singles.
Also recording one hit apiece in the first game were
senior 1B Bree Spencer, Beckham-Timmons, and freshman catcher
Marcell Hernandez.
In the circle, Beckham struck out six over 4 innings while walking seven and allowing only 7 earned runs on 10 hits with 5 wild pitches in game one.
In game two, FVSU got out to an early 3-0 lead after one inning before Beckham shut out the wildcats int he second frame. FVSU, however, then extended their lead to 5 after three innings scoring on three RBI singles and an error. Trailing 6-0 heading into the 5th, Allen got one run back as outfielder
Michaela Barron walked, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and came around to score on senior
SS Chyna Davis' RBI groundout.Â
In the bottom of the 5th, FVSU was held to just one run as a great relay throw from senior CF
Morgan Moon threw out a Wildcat at home with a stellar throw to Hernandez.
Heading into the top of the 6th, Allen out two runners on base with no outs as Hernandez walked ans Spencer singled to center. Unfortunately, a strikeout, a lineout from Moon and a groundout from Beckham ended the threat. Finally, four consecutive singles by FVSU in the bottom of the 6th ended the game with Fort Valley taking it 9-1.
Spencer led the team with a hit while Hernandez walked twice and Barron stole a base. Beckham allowed 6 earned runs on 12 hits over 5+ innings walking just two and striking out four.
FVSU improves to 11-17 on the season and 8-8 in the conference while Allen falls to 1-16 in the SIAC. The teams will finish their series on Sunday with game three at 1PM.
