ATLANTA, GA - The Allen University Lady Softball team dropped both games of their SIAC doubleheader at Clark Atlanta on Saturday going down 10-2 in game one and 12-4 in game two. The Ladies then fell 13-0 in game three on Sunday.
In game one, Allen fell behind early 4-0 after the first and 7-0 after two innings. However, senior pitcher
Daeshonna Beckham-Timmons then settled down and allowed only 3 runs over the final 3 innings but CAU went on to win 10-2. Daeshonna threw 4 and 2/3 innings allowing 8 runs (6 earned) on just 4 hits while walking only three and striking out nine Lady Panthers. Her strikeout total is the second most of the season behind the 10 she struck out against Bluefield.
Offensively, Allen was led by a double from leadoff senior shortstop
Breighana Spencer while her and senior CF
Morgan Moon each scored a run for the Jackets. Outfielders
Michaela Barron and
Mattie Riddick also recorded singles while Beckham-Timmons knocked a hit as well. Beckham and Riddick drove in runs for the Jackets also.
In game two, the Allen ladies played very well offensively getting out to an early 4-0 lead with 4 runs in the first inning while they also went on to outhit the Panthers 9-8 in the game. Leading the Yellow Jackets was Moon as she was 3 for 3 with a double and two singles while scoring a run and totaling four bases. Also recording multi-hit games were Beckham-Timmons and Riddick as they each recorded two hits apiece with Riddick also driving in two runs. Junior 1B
Jasmine Blaxton recorded a single as well while Spencer knocked another double. Moon is now hitting .270 on the season with 10 hits.
Unfortunately, Allen's lead was short-lived as CAU came back to score 5 runs in the bottom of the first off Beckham-Timmons, the game two starter. CAU then added another run in the 2nd before putting the game out of reach with a 7-run third inning and go up 13-4 on the Jackets.
Beckham-Timmons ended up tossing 4 innings allowing 7 earned runs on 8 hits while walking six and striking out only two.
In game three on Sunday, CAU got out to an early 5-0 lead off game three starter
Rachel Rolle. Clark scored on a two run homer, two wild pitches and an error in the first.
The Panthers then added five more runs in the second off Rolle on a two-run double, another home run and a walk to lead 10-0. Clark then finished off the game in the third with two final runs off Rolle and another run off Beckham-Timmons.
Rolle (0-6) ended up tossing two-plus innings allowing 11 earned runs on 7 hits while walking seven and striking out just one. Beckham then pitched much better in relief finishing the final two innings allowing only one run on 3 hits with no walks and 4 strikeouts. It was one of the better relief outings of the season for Daeshonna as she now has 65 strikeouts on the year.
Offensively, Allen was led by single hits from freshman CF/C
Marcell Hernandez and shortstop
Breighana Spencer. Spencer is now hitting .286 on the season with 6 extra-base hits.
CAU improves to 3-3 in the conference and 7-8 overall while dropping Allen to 0-6 in conference.
Allen will now head back out on the road on Thursday for six games in Jasper, Alabama at the SIAC Crossover tournament. The event will run from March 9 through the 11th with AU playing all six teams from the SIAC West Division (two games on each day).
