FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Allen University softball team dropped their doubleheader on the road Friday falling 14-3 and 9-1 to CIAA foe Fayetteville State.
In game one, FSU got out to a quick 6-0 lead in the first inning scoring on two doubles, two singles and an error. Allen then got one back in the 2nd inning with pitcher
Daeshonna Beckham-Timmons scoring on a passed ball.
FSU then added five more runs in the third inning off Beckham to put the game out of reach. A home run made it 14-1 int he 4th inning before AU scored two runs in the 5th on a
Morgan Moon home run, her first of the year, that scored
2B Bree Spencer.Â
Moon led the offense with her homer and two RBIs while junior 1B
Jasmine Blaxton also recorded a double in the loss. Allen registered six hits in the loss with junior OF
Michaela Barron, 3B
Rachel Rolle, Beckham-Timmons and Spencer also knocking singles.
Beckham-Timmons allowed just 6 earned runs on 15 hits over 4 innings while walking three and striking out two.
In game two, Allen got out to a 1-0 lead in the first on a Moon RBI groundout that brought home Spencer. Two RBI singles fro FSU only had the Lady Broncos up 2-1 through three innings. Two run-scoring doubles and a two-run homer from FSU in the 4th off game two starter
Rachel Rolle then made it 7-1 FSU through 4 innings.Â
Then, with the bases loaded on two walks and an error, FSU clinched the game with a two-run single for the 8-run rule win.
Allen was led offensively by hits from Barron and Beckham while Beckham's hit was a double as she also stole a base. Rolle threw 4 and 1/3 innings allowing 7 earned runs on 10 hits while walking seven and striking out just one to fall to 1-8 on the year.
FSU improves to 5-12 on the season while Allen falls to 1-23.
The Yellow Jackets will next return to action on Sunday when they return home to host rival Benedict College at MLK PARK with a 1:00 PM doubleheader.
ALLEN will then finish their series with Benedict on Monday at 3 PM from MLK.
