COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Allen University Softball team dropped both ends of their home-opening doubleheader with CIAA foe Winston-Salem St. University from MLK Park on Wednesday afternoon. WSSU won by scores of 11-0 and 15-0 each in five innings.
GAME 1: WSSU 11, ALLEN 0
WSSU got off to a quick 4-0 start in game one off Yellow Jacket senior starter
Daeshonna Beckham-Timmons. However, she then settled down to toss three scoreless innings as AU trailed just 4-0 heading into the 5th inning. Unfortunately, this is where the Lady Rams took advantage of some AU errors, passed balls, and walks to put up 7 runs in the inning. They first scored three runs on multiple fielding errors before WSSU came all the around to score on a bunt base hit that took the air out of the Yellow Jacket sails. WSSU managed just 6 hits but used four Yellow Jacket errors.
Offensively, Allen could not get on track against WSSU starter Julie Manners as she shut Allen down no-hitting the Lady Jackets over 5 innings striking out 11 and walking three.
Beckham-Timmons threw all five innings allowing 6 earned runs on six hits while walking four and striking out five. Junior 1B
Jasmine Blaxton reached base in both of her at-bats walking twice.
GAME 2: WSSU 15, AU 0
A scoreless shut-down inning from game two starter
Rachel Rolle did not carry over to the second inning unfortunately as WSSU would then awaken for 3 runs in the 2nd inning scoring on a triple, wild pitch and passed ball to knock Rolle out of the game. Rolle threw just 1 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits walking three and striking one one.
The Rams then added two runs in the third off reliever Beckham-Timmons scoring on a wild pitch and ground out to only lead 5-0 as Allen stayed in the game. However,  WSSU would erupt for five runs each in the 4th and 5th innings to out the game out of reach off an exhausted Beckham-Timmons and numerous AU fielding errors.
Allen was led offensively by a double from freshman catcher
Yolmarcell Hernandez and base hits from RF
Michaela Barron and junior 2B
Talia Cyriaque. Barron tried to score form first in the 4th inning off Hernandez's double but was thrown out at third as she rounded the base. Beckham-Timmons also added a base hit in the 5th as the Jackets totaled 4 hits on the game. Beckham-Timmons threw 3 and 1/3 innings allowing 8 earned runs on 7 hits while walking eight and striking out four.
Allen (0-4) will now head to USC-Union JC for an exhibition DH on Sunday afternoon before returning home next Wednesday afternoon host NAIA foe Columbia College from MLK Park.  Allen's DH with FL Memorial University was postponed on Saturday due to the impending rainstorm.
