Softball Can't Hold Down Koalas

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Allen University Softball team could not get their offense on track until late in game two as they fell 9-0 and 10-2 in a road doubleheader at nearby NAIA foe Columbia College on Wednesday.

GAME 1: CC 9, AU 0 (5 INNINGS)
AU couldn't find their offense against the Koalas in game one as they were no-hit by CC's Makayla Dennis over 5 innings while AU starter Daeshonna Beckham-Timmons threw 4 innings allowing 8 earned runs on 7 hits walking three and striking out four. Her control got away from her in this one tossing 5 wild pitches and 3 hit by pitches in the defeat. Columbia scored 3 runs in the first helped by two Yellow Jacket errors before getting their 4th run on a wild pitch in the 2nd. The Koalas would then use 3 hits and a WP to finish off Allen over the final two frames.

Game 2:  CC 10, AU 2 (6 innings)
In game two, Columba (3-1) got off to a 5-0 lead after three innings on three RBI singles and an RBI double before a sac fly made it 6-0 after 4 innings. Allen then scored two runs in the 6th inning on an error by the CC 3B that scored senior 2B Breighana Spencer as well as an RBI double from junior 1B Jasmine Blaxton that brought home junior RF Michaela Barron. Spencer began the 6th by getting hit by a pitch before stealing second and advancing to third on a groundout. Barron then drove Spencer in as she reached via error.

Beckham-Timmons (0-5) started game two in the circle again and threw 5 plus innings allowing 10 runs on 9 hits while walking six, hitting five, and striking out four.
Spencer and Blaxton recorded doubles in the loss while Beckham-Timmons and freshman catcher Marcell Hernandez reached via base hits as well.
Defensively, center fielder Morgan Moon made several stellar catches in the outfield for the Jackets including a terrific diving catch on the warning track to end the 5th inning.

Allen goes to 0-6 on the season and will next go on the road to Orangeburg for the HBCU CIAA/SIAC Classic at Claflin on Saturday and Sunday for four CIAA games. AU's first pitch is Saturday at 10 am against Livingstone College (NC) before they battle Bluefield State (WV) at Noon.
