NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Allen University wrestling team traveled to nearby Div. II power Newberry College on Sunday to compete at the annual Newberry Individual Open.

Eric Pack only entered four wrestlers into the tournament and came away with a few wins.Â
Leading the charge was junior
Christian Poplous at 917 lbs and freshman heavyweight
Timyris Lippett as they each came away with an individual win.
Poplous went 1-2 on the day winning his first bout over a Limestone foe by a 13-9 decision before falling in round two by fall. He then dropped a tough 8-1 decision in the consolation round.
Lippett also won his first bout of the day by fall in just 28 seconds before dropping a heart-breaking 3-1 decision in overtime in round two. He then fell by third period fall in the consolation round after a great effort.Â
Also competing for the Yellow Jackets were
Moise Toussaint at 157 lbs and
Ya'Donnis Hardaway at 165 lbs. However, each wrestler faced tough opponents and could not pull out a win. However, Hardaway did advance to the third round of the consolation bracket with a bye and a medical forfeit win before falling by second period fall to Edward Waters.
The ALLEN Â grapplers will next return home to host Newberry and U. of SC in a tri-meet on Friday evening beginning at 5 PM. AU will then take on USC at 6 pm and NC at 7 pm.Â
