Allen Women’s Rally Not Enough in loss to CAU

ATLANTAGA – The Allen University women's basketball team could not rally in the second half as they fell 72-65 at conference foe Clark Atlanta on Saturday.

The Lady Yellow Jackets were led by senior forward Cardrina Nolen as she had team highs of 14 points and 6 rebounds with a block and 2 steals as she dominated inside the paint on the day.

CAU got out to a good start leading 16-12 after the first and then 44-27 at halftime outscoring the Jackets 28-15 in the period. AU then rallied in the second half outscoring the Lady Panthers 17-7 in the third quarter climbing to within 5 points. However, CAU then found their rhythm in the fourth and quickly extended their lead to 16 at the 5-minute mark. Allen would rally at the end to get within six, but it would be too little too late for the Jackets.

Also scoring in double-figures on the afternoon were freshman forwards Talayah Boxley and Ananda Mayhew who each recorded 12 points and 4 rebounds with the ladies combining for 3 steals and Mayhew adding two assists. Junior shooting guard Keyshuna Fair also played well making three treys en route to an 11-point game along with a block and two boards.

Freshman guard Kynew Barnwell also tallied 3 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 points while Destinee Jamison-Whitfield led the team with 5 assists along with 2 steals, 3 rebounds and a block.

Allen will next return home on Wednesday for their season finale when they will host Paine College and celebrate Senior Night at 5:30 PM from Adams Gym.
