COLUMBIA, S.C. - THE Allen University women's basketball program celebrated Senior Night Wednesday and came away with a resounding 77-50 win over visiting Paine College. AU honored seniors
Jazeem Bethea,
Cardrina Nolen,
Brooke Kyle and
Symone Jackson.
Bethea set a career high for point while Nolen recorded a double-double on their senior nights.
The Lady Jackets improve to 14-12 on the season and will next prepare for the SIAC Tournament First Round to be held next Monday at 5 PM from Savannah, GA where the East 4th seed yellow Jackets will take on the West 5th seed Central State.Â
A low-scoring first quarter saw each team struggled to shoot the ball with the teams combining for just 19 points as PC took a slim 10-9 lead. Allen then found their rhythm and shooting stroke in the second quarter outscoring Paine 24-10 to take a 33-20 halftime lead. Allen shot 34 percent overall in the first half and held the Lions to 26 percent and zero percent from three. Allen grabbed 7 steals in the half and forced Paine into 15 turnovers.Â
AU then came out on fire in the second half scoring 37 points as they absolutely crushed the Lady Lions in the third period. Allen actually went on a 28-3 run to start the third quarter increasing their 13-point lead to 42 point advantage leading 65-23 with 2:30 to play. Allen would reach their largest lead at 45 points as they went up 70-25 with under two minutes to play in the third. Allen outscored Paine 37-13 in the third before AU coach
Toccara Toland pulled her starters in the fourth as Paine would go onto win the fourth quarter 17-7 to make the final score look closer than it was.
During the massive run, AU hit five consecutive three-pointers, two from junior
Destinee Jamison-Whitfield and three in a row from guard
Jazeem Bethea. Bethea ended up finishing with a career-high of 18 points and four 3-pointers on 7 of 10 shooting overall while Jamison-Whitfield finished with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds shooting 5 of 9 from the floor along with 4 assists and a steal.
 Nolen's double-double consisted of 13 points and 11 rebounds with a block while fellow senior forward
Symone Jackson had 4 points and 6 boards. Fellow forward, freshman
Talayah Boxley was the final Jacket to finish in double-figures scoring 10 points with 3 rebounds and 3 steals.

Ananda Mayhew also grabbed 6 rebounds and scored 6 points with a steal off the bench while point guard
Dasia Harden played a terrific game leading the team in five assists with 4 points. Allen also out-reboudned the Lions by an impressive 67-37 margin while the forward duo of
Jaida Reddin and
Kourtney English combined for 4 points and 10 rebounds with Reddin grabbing 3 steals and blocking a shot.
