COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Allen University Lady Basketball team steamrolled to a 69-43 rout of NAIA foe Voorhees University from Adams Gym on Wednesday evening.
The Yellow Jackets held the Tigers to just 16 second half points and only 43 points for the game, showcasing their best defensive game of the season in the win. The victory improves AU to 13-11 on the season.
Senior forward
Cardrina Nolen led Allen with 10 points and 5 rebounds on the night that she was honored with reaching 1,000 career points.Â
A back and forth first quarter saw the two schools tied at 14 apiece heading to the second quarter where Allen trailed 21-25 with 5 minutes to play. However, AU then went on a 11-2 run to close the half on two Nolen jumpers and win the quarter 18-13 and take a 32-27 halftime edge.
In the Third quarter, Allen would increase their lead to 20 at 54-34 as they outscored the Tigers 22-7 in the third. AU then held VU to just 9 points in the fourth taking it 15-9 for the big win. Allen shot nearly 40 percent for the game while holding Voorhees to just 28 percent shooting and only 16.7 percent from three.
Also playing well was junior guard
Destinee Jamison-Whitfield as she scored 11 points with 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Freshman forward
Kourtney English also contributed defensively with a team-high 10 rebounds and 2 steals along with 5 points while fellow forward,
Symone Jackson tallied 6 points and 5 rebounds with a steal as well. GuardsÂ
Keyshuna Fair and
Tatanyi Morris then combined for 10 points while Fair added 4 rebounds and a team-best three assists.
Juniors
Jaida Reddin and
Kayla Pope each scored 7 points apiece as well while the duo combined for 7 steals, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Pope led the team with 4 steals.
Allen will next finish their SIAC conference schedule with a road game at Clark Atlanta on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
