COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Allen University women's basketball rallied in the 4th quarter outscoring the rival Benedict Tigers by nine, but ultimately fell short 73-66 on the road Saturday at C.A. Johnson High School in Columbia.
Allen started off well taking an 18-13 lead after the first quarter before a low-scoring second quarter saw the teams combine for just 26 total points with Allen taking a 30-27 lead at the break behind a three-pointer from forward
Cardrina Nolen near the end of the half.
However, BC then came out on fire in the third quarter going on a 27-7 run led by 15 points from forward Taylor Christmas to take a 54-37 lead with 3 minutes to play in the third.
Allen could then not quite recover from the onslaught as they entered the fourth trailing by 16. AU then found their offense in the 4th outscoring the Lady Tigers 23-14 to get within 7 points late but it was not enough as a three-pointer from Jamison Whitfield clanked off the rim clinching the win for the Tigers.
The ladies put four women in double-digit scoring on the day led by 16 points and 8 rebounds and a block from the senior,
Cardrina Nolen.
Junior Guards
Keyshuna Fair and
Destinee Jamison-Whitfield also played well with Fair putting up 14 points and 6 rebounds with a block while Jamison scored 13 points with 7 rebounds and a team-best four steals. Senior guard
Jazeem Bethea then scored 11 points with 2 rebounds, an assist and 3 steals while junior wing
Jaida Reddin tallied 3 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
The Allen women fall to 4th place at 12-11 overall and 8-10 in the conference while BC improves to 12-12 ans 10-8 in the conference and sit in third place in the East Division.
The women will now return home to host NAIA foe Voorhees University on Wednesday at 6:00 pm.
