Benedict Men Too Much for Yellow Jackets

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Allen University men's basketball team fell to first place rival Benedict College 91-61 on Saturday afternoon at Columbia's C.A. Johnson High School gymnasium.

The Tigers (16-9, 14-5 SIAC) used a 25-9 run to end the first half to break away from an Allen 20-19 lead as BC took a 44-29 lead at to the half.

The Yellow Jackets, who fell to 4-20 overall, and 4-15 in the SIAC, got to within 11 points at 50-39 on a dunk by freshman Nakia Johnson with 16:21 left in the second half, but unfortunately that was as close as they would get. The Tigers then went on another big run, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 18-4 over the next eight minutes to build a 25-point lead at 68-43.

Allen was led by 14 points from senior guard Darius Williams and a career-high 17 points and 7 rebounds from sophomore forward Tyriq McAdoo.  McAdoo also led with 2 steals while fellow forward Nakia Johnson added 5 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Guards Mike Best and sophomore Shawn Jones Jr. also combined for 11 points while senior wing Cameron Sembly scored 6 points.

Allen returns to action next Saturday when they head to Atlanta to battle Clark and Morehouse in their season-ending road trip. AU tips off with CAU at 4:00 on Saturday and then battles Morehouse on Monday.
