COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Allen University women's basketball team shut down the Lane College (TN) Dragons 63-55 Monday night for their first conference win of the season.
AU outscored Lane 47-30 after the first quarter when Lane started off hot, shooting 70 percent to lead 26-16. Allen then outscored the Lady Dragons 16-8 in the second quarter and barely trailed at half 34-32. The Lady Jackets then shot 40 percent in the second half and held Lane to 18 percent shooting in the half and only 21 total points outscoring them 31-21. Allen shot 43 percent for the game and nearly 70 percent from the foul line.
AU was led by 15 points, 3 assists and 2 steals from senior guard
Kash Hankerson on 6 of 9 shooting while junior guard
Taliah Wesley had 13 points on 5 of 8 shooting with a steal and assist. The third member to score in double figures was fellow guard
Maya Johnson with 12 points and 4 boards.
A trio of Lady Jackets also scored 6 points apiece to combine for 18 points including junior guards
Nari Coe and
Kynew Barnwell and junior forward
Kasey Smith. Smith finished with nine rebounds as well. Barnwell also had 4 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal.
Allen improves to 3-3 on the year and 1-1 in the SIAC while Lane falls to 1-4 and 1-1.
AU will next be on the road to face nearby foe Morris College on Thursday at 5 PM in Sumter.Â
