Box Score COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Allen University women's basketball team was upended by SIAC West foe LeMoyne-Owen College 64-54 in AU's conference home opener on Saturday afternoon.
AU shot 41 percent in the first quarter and then 64 percent in the second quarter to take a 36-30 lead into the halftime break. Allen led by 10 midway through the second quarter 29-19 but LOC finished the half and the start of the third quarter on a 28-12 run to take a 6-point lead. LOC then led by nine heading into the fourth outscoring the Lady Yellow Jackets 24-9. AU could not get any closer in the fourth as they fell in their conference opener.
Allen shot 40 percent on the game and LOC shot 37 percent overall while each team shot 21 percent from behind the arc.
Allen was led by guard
Maya Johnson's 11 points and 2 assists as she shot 5 of 6 from the field while fellow guard
Taliah Wesley also scored 11 points with two steals. Senior guard
Kash Hankerson then was a trio of guards to score 7 points along with guard
Keyshuna Fair and forward
Zion Duncan. Hankerson also added 3 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist while Duncan added two boards.
Allen was led in rebounds by
Kasey Smith with eight boards while forwards
Kourtney English and
JuJu Harrington combined for 11 rebounds.
The AU women fall to 2-3Â on the season while LOC goes to 3-2.
Allen will remain home to finish out their first semester homestand by hosting another SIAC West foe in Lane College on Monday at 5:30 pm.
