Allen Edges Past LeMoyne Down the Stretch

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Allen University men's basketball team made their free throws and played well down the stretch edging past SIAC West foe LeMoyne-Owen College 71-67 Saturday afternoon from Adams Gym to start the conference season off 1-0.

AU shot 38 percent in the first half to take a slim 28-25 lead over the Magicians at the break. Allen then shot an impressive and efficient 56 percent in the second half while holding LOC to just 28 percent from three and only 37 percent in the half.

LeMoyne started the half on a 13-6 run to take a 38-34 lead at the first media timeout with 15 minutes to play. However, that would be LOC's only lead of the game as Allen would then go on a 12-2 run to go back up by six at 46-40 at the 10 minute mark. LeMoyne would then crawl to within two at the 8 minute mark before AU would extend their lead again to their largest of the night at 11 points going up 63-52 with 1:21 to play. The Yellowjackets would then hold off the Magicians the rest of the way to pick up the 4-point victory and first SIAC win.

Senior forward Tyriq McAdoo led Allen with the first double-double of the season recording 11 points and 10 rebounds with a block and a steal as he was the solid force all night in 32 minutes of action.

Junior point guard G'Shan Aldridge also led Allen with 16 points on 5 of 10 shooting and 6 of 8 from the foul line along with a team-best four assists. Fellow guard, sophomore Peyton Weathersby also played well scoring a season-high 12 points on 6 of 9 shooting along with 8 rebounds, 4 assists and a team-best and season-high 5 steals.

Junior shooting guard Austin James also put up nine points while forwards Tavis Bridges and Nakia Johnson, Jr. combined for 15 points and six rebounds. Johnson added a block and a steal as well.

Allen improves to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference while LOC drops to 2-3. AU will remain home for their final home game of the semester when they host Lane College on Monday at 7:30 pm.
