TAMPA, Fla. - The Allen University men's basketball team dropped their season opener 82-68 on the road at perennial D-2 contender, Tampa University, Saturday evening.
The Tampa Spartans got out to a big lead at halftime leading 46-28 after Allen had earlier got to within 7 points of the Spartans as TUÂ shot 53 percent overall while Allen shot 44 percent. AU then shot 53 percent themselves in the second half to win the period 40-36 as AU shot 49 percent for the game.
Allen was led by 12 points from sophomore forward
Jordan Edmond on 4 of 4 shooting along with two rebounds, a block and a steal while AU also received 10 points apiece from junior guards
G'Shan Aldridge and
Austin James. Aldridge led Allen with three assists along with six rebounds while senior forward
Mohamed Alkadi led the team with seven rebounds. James also led with two steals.

Talton Jones also had an efficient night shooting 4 of 5 for 8 points in just nine minutes of action. Junior forward
Tyriq McAdoo also recorded 7 points with three boards.
The Yellow Jackets will turn right around and go across town to St. Petersburg to battle Eckerd College at 2:00 PM Sunday afternoon.
