COLUMBIA, S.C. - the Allen University volleyball team cruised to a four set win, 3-1, over visiting NAIA foe Clinton College at home Thursday night on Domestic Violence awareness Night.
Allen took time before the game to honor former AU volleyball player
Wynter Straw, who was tragically killed recently in a domestic violence dispute.Â
Allen won the first two sets by sizable dominating margins, 25-12 and 25-14 before Clinton rallied to steal the third set 25-22. Allen then stormed back to take set four 25-17 to get the win. Â AU improves to 9-8 on the season while Clinton falls to 9-8 as well.
Allen had 13 kills and hit an impressive .367 in the first set while they then had 11 kills and hit .152 in the second set while holding Clinton to just 3 kills an d8 errors in the set number two. Allen's play then fell off in the third set where they made 12 attack errors along with 10 kills before coming back strong in the fourth to hit .250 with 14 kills.
The Yellow Jackets were led by freshman right side hitter
Tahmiah Lawson who hit .478 with 13 kills and an assist while sophomore OH
Maliyah Spencer recorded 11 kills, 3 blocks, and 3 digs. Also playing well were middle hitters: seniorÂ
Marlaysia Westbrook and junior
Taylor Lawrence as they combined for 10 kills with only three errors while each hitting over .250 and combining for 4 blocks. Westbrook also added 6 digs as well.
Senior setter
Kayla Chambliss had another terrific game as she played all around the court tallying 19 assists with 2 aces, 5 kills, 2 blocks and 8 digs. Fellow setter, freshman
Jayda Woodson tallied 14 assists and 5 digs as well. Freshman Libero
Myra Lopez played well defensively recording 31 digs with six assists and three aces.
Finally, senior OH
Natalia Maciejewska led the team with four service aces as well as recording a kill and six digs.
The Lady Jackets will next return to action on Saturday when they head to Atlanta to face the Clark Panthers at 1:00 Pm.
