COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Allen University women's soccer team earned their first draw in team history on Friday rallying from a goal down to tie crosstown rival Columbia College at 1 apiece.
Allen received the tying goal from junior midfielder
Tonie Sledz as her free kick sailed over the Koala keeper and into the back of the net in the 85th minute of action. Sledz's goal was her 4th of the season.
Columbia got on the board to start in the first half scoring in the 20th minute off a misplayed rebound by the Yellow Jackets. The initial shot was off the post while the rebound went right passed the stretched arms of freshman keeper
Rianda Pimienta Solano, who made one save on Columbia's 7 shots and improved to 3-5-1 on the season. Allen won the shot count, however, outshooting the Koalas 10-7 on the afternoon including 6-3 in the 2nd half.
Allen almost tied the game earlier in the second half as freshman striker
Tatyana Machado's shot tipped off the hands of the Koala keeper while the rebound went to senior forward
Acacia Small whose shot just went wide. Machado led the team with 3 shots apiece.
Allen goes to 3-10-1 on the season while dropping Columbia to 8-5-1. The Lady Yellow Jackets will next head on the road to face Virginia State on Sunday afternoon for a 1:00 kick.
