CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Allen University volleyball team fell on the road at Johnson & Wales University on Friday evening while playing shorthanded.
JWU won the first set 25-22 before Allen won a marathon second set 32-30 on 19 kills hitting .368. in the third set, the Wildcats outplayed the Jackets to win 25-21 before Allen rallied to toe the final set at 24 apiece until JWU took it 26-24.
AU, who was missing all of their defensive specialists on the evening due to illness, totaled more kills than JWU 52-50 while hitting 169. AU also had more blocks and assists than the wildcats. Allen was led by 16 kills from sophomore OH
Maliyah Spencer and 11 digs while hitting .231 to record a double-double along with her 2 aces.
Freshman RSH
Dacia Lowery also played well tallying 11 kills and hitting .321 with 3 block and 5 digs while fellow freshman OH
Tahmiah Lawson grabbed 9 kills and 4 digs.
Junior middle
Taylor Lawrence had a good night registering 7 kills and hitting .357 with five blocks and 2 solo while fellow middle
Sydney Ross had 3 kills and 3 blocks. Freshman middle
Mariah Bell also had a nice night grabbing a season-high 10 digs with 4 aces and 2 kills.
Senior setter
Kayla Chambliss kept up her stellar play leading with 32 assists and 13 digs for a double-double along with 3 kills and 4 aces. Senior libero
Natalia Maciejewska led the team with 11 digs with 8 assists.
Allen falls to 10-10 on the season and will next have a well-earned week off before heading to Jacksonville to face conference foe Edward Waters on Oct. 22.
