MONTGOMERY, AL - The Allen University wrestling team finished in 3rd place, just 2.5 points out of first place in the Huntingdon Hawk Invitational on Sunday afternoon in Alabama. AU also crowed three individual champions: juniorÂ
Nyshaad Hannon at 133 lbs, sophomoreÂ
Ya'Donnis Hardaway at 165, and junior
Michael Jackson at 184.
Allen finished with 102 points while host Huntingdon was a half point ahead in 2nd and Kentucky Wesleyan in first with 104.5 points. Lincoln Memorial (TN) finished 4th and Lyon College (Ark.) in 5th.
Hannon won both of his matches by 19-2 technical fall and by a third period pin. JuniorÂ
Drevon Wallace then went 2-1 at 149 lbs to place 2nd as he recorded a major decision and a Fall before falling 5-4 in the finals. Hardaway then went 3-0 to complete his championship by winning three bouts by scores of 7-6, 5-2 and 8-0.
Junior
Terrence Mills then went 1-0 at 174 lbs before medically forfeiting out of the tournament. Jackson also went 3-0 to win his bracket at 184 lbs by a 12-4 major decision, a first period fall and a win by injury default.
Junior
Christian Poplous also went 2-2 to place third as he had wins by scores of 16-8 and 15-8 in the consolation bracket before falling in his 2nd place bout. Freshman heavyweight
Timyris Lippett then placed 3rd by going 2-2 with wins in the consolation bracket by scores of 3-2 and 2-1 before he lost 6-3 in his true 2nd place bout. Fellow heavyweight
Emmanuel Velasquez also went 1-1 in the bracket before defaulting due to injury.
