Allen Women Cruise Past Spring Hill

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Allen University women's basketball team cruised to a 73-57 conference win over Spring Hill College (AL) at home in Adams Gym Wednesday night.

The women were very consistent on the night scoring 16 points in each of the first three quarters before exploding for 25 in the fourth. AU won the first half 16-9 and 16-13 to take a 32-22 halftime edge. Allen then limited SHC to just 10 points in the third en route to going on an 8-2 run to start the quarter and extend their lead to 40-24. Allen was never threatened in the second half with the Badgers never getting closer than 15 points throughout the half.

Allen shot 37 percent for the game but just 25 percent from three while Spring Hill only made 15 baskets, 7 of which were three pointers as the Badgers struggled in the paint against the Yellow Jacket defense.

AU was led by 12 points from freshman forward Talayah Boxley and 10 points each from guards Destinee Jamison-Whitfield and freshman Jada Richardson. Jamison-Whitfield, a junior, also added 7 rebounds, 2 assists, a block and a steal while Richardson's points were a season-high.

Senior forward Taelor-Symone Jackson also played well off the bench scoring 8 points and pulling down a team high 11 rebounds while shooting guard Kayla Pope also added 8 points and 2 steals off the bench. Jaida Reddin also played well defensively with 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and a block while senior forward Cardrina Nolen added 6 points and 4 rebounds and a steal.

The Lady Jackets improve to 4-6 overall and 2-5 in the SIAC while dropping SHC to 2-10 and 1-6 in conference.
Allen will next have a few days off before remaining home to host Clark Atlanta on Monday evening at 5:30 pm.
