Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Allen's Team Effort Leads to win over Edward Waters

COLUMBIAS.C. - The Allen University Men's basketball team used balanced scoring and a team effort to hold off conference foe Edward Waters University (Fla.) 75-71 from Adams Gym Saturday afternoon.

Trailing by three with 3:40 to play, Allen would go on to outscore the Tigers 9-2 over the final few minutes to put away the Tigers. Allen outscored EWU 36-33 in the second half and used a dunk from freshman forward Nakia Johnson, a layup from senior guard Cameron Sembly and four clutch free throws from fellow senior guard Darius Williams to grab their third win while getting revenge on the Tigers from their loss on Wednesday.

The two new conference foes have now split their hardwood rivalry this season between the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) affiliated institutions. Sembly finished the game leading the Jackets with 15 points and 7 rebounds while Williams scored 13 points with 4 rebounds and two assists off the bench as well as the big free throws down the stretch to ice the game away.

Sophomore wing Jaylen Green also had a nice game as he was the third Yellow Jacket to finish in double-figures with 11 points on 5 of 8 shooting. The balanced scoring continued with sophomore guard Chase Cook scoring 8 points with 6 boards and and a team-high five assists while fellow shooting guard Julian Smith also finished with 8 points, 4 rebounds, and three assists.
Johnson would also add 7 points and 3 rebounds in the win while guard Anthony Baker Jr. tallied 8 points with 2 assists and a steal off the bench. Senior forward Reggie Reynolds also led the team with two steals while adding 5 points and 3 rebounds. All eight Yellow Jackets that entered the game all scored at least 5 points in the team win.

Allen improves to 3-17 overall and 3-12 in the SIAC while dropping EWU to 4-15 overall and 3-11 in conference. The Jackets will remain home to host Savannah State on Monday at 7:30 pm.
