COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Allen University men's basketball team faced a buzzsaw of a team on Monday evening as they battled SIAC East Division Leader Savannah State University, but fell 74-48 at home.
SSU raced out to a 20-5 lead over the first 10 minutes of action in the half. The Tigers would then extend their lead to 38-16 at the halftime break shooting 45 percent and holding Allen to just 8 made shots in the first half.
The Yellow Jackets would then go on a mini 15-7Â run themselves cutting SSU's lead down to 14 on back-to-back three pointers from senior guard
Darius Williams as AU trailed 45-31 with 12:30 to play.
However, Savannah would hike their lead back to 25 points 6 minutes later leading 59-34. Allen could then not get closer than 19 points the rest of the way as numerous foul calls got them out of their rhythm with SSU taking the second half 36-32 for the win. Savannah improves to 14-6 overall and 12-4 in the SIAC while Allen falls to 3-18 on the season and 3-13 in conference.
Senior wing
Cameron Sembly led the Jackets with 13 points, 4 rebounds and a steal while Williams also finished with 11 points and three treys. Sophomore forward
Jaylen Green contributed 6 points and 3 boards as well while fellow forward
