Women's Rough Third Quarter Leads to Defeat at EWU

Jacksonville, FL - The Allen University women's basketball team outscored Edward Waters University in three of the four quarters played Wednesday night, but one rough third quarter would ultimately cost the Yellow Jackets in a 67-53 loss on the road.

Allen led after one quarter 13-12 before taking a 29-27 halftime lead as well as they held the Lady Tigers to just 27 percent shooting in the first half.
Unfortunately, the dreaded third quarter would come next as EWU (9-10, 5-6 SIAC) would outscore the Jackets 28-10 in the period en route to building a 55-39 lead after three. The quarter included a 18-4 run to begin the period by the Tigers.

Allen (9-9, 5-8 SIAC) would again outscore the Tigers 14-12 in the fourth but it would be too late as they could not overcome the rough third quarter. Edward Waters was able to take round one of the hardwood rivalry between the two African Methodist Episcopal (AME) affiliated institutions on Wednesday.

Junior guard Destinee Jamison-Whitfield led the Jackets with 10 points, 7 rebounds and a block while freshman forward Talayah Boxley added 9 points, 2 steals, and 7 rebounds off the bench.

Junior guard Tatanyi Morris also registered 8 points, four rebounds and a block while senior forward Taelor-Symone Jackson scored six points with six rebounds and two steals. Senior Cardrina Nolen and SIAC Newcomer of the Week Keyshuna Fair also combined for 10 points and six rebounds while Nolen blocked a shot as well. Senior guard Jazeem Bethea also led the team with three assists and brought down five rebounds.

The Blue & Gold will host the home-and-home series with EWU on Saturday afternoon in Columbia with tipoff from John Hurst Adams Gymnasium slated for 2:00 pm.
