SAVANNAH,
Ga. - The Allen University women's basketball team fell short 74-55 on the road at conference leader Savannah St. University on Monday evening.
SSU held a slim 22-17 lead after the first quarter while Allen then outscored the Lady Tigers 17-15 in the second quarter as they trailed by just three (34-37) at the break. SSU had taken a 28-19 lead in the 2nd Q before the Jackets went on a 15-9 run to end the half.
Allen then climbed to within two points of the tigers with 4:30 to play in the third quarter at 41-43, but SSU then increased their lead by outscoring the Jackets 20-9 in the third and then 17-12 in the fourth to put the game away.
Senior forward
Cardrina Nolen led the Yellow Jackets with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals on the night. Junior guard
Destinee Jamison-Whitfield also had a good game scoring 9 points with 7 boards, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
Fellow Junior shooting guard
Keyshuna Fair also added 8 points with 2 rebounds and an assist while the junior guard tandem of
Dasia Harden and
Tatanyi Morris then combined for 14 points with Harden also adding 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal in the loss.
The Lady Jackets fall to 9-8 overall and 5-7 in the SIAC while SSU improves to 13-4 overall and 9-3 and in first place in the SIAC East.
The Allen Ladies will next remain on the road to battle Edward Waters University in Jacksonville, FL on Wednesday evening at 5:30 pm.
