Allen Men Stun Fort Valley 77-70 for 2nd win

FORT VALLEY, Ga. - The Allen University men's basketball team picked up their second win of the season on Saturday stunning a quality Fort Valley State team on the road 77-70.

Allen jumped out to a 24-14 lead 10 minutes into the first half before FVSU closed the half on a 14-6 run as they trailed the Jackets by just two points at the break, 30-28.

The teams would trade the lead back and forth during the early part of the second half while neither team could lead by more than five points until Allen grabbed a 6-point lead at 59-53 with 5 minutes to play. After FVSU got to within four points at the 3:30 mark of the half, Allen would go on a 9-2 run over the next two minutes to go up by 11 with 1:10 to play and clinch the win.

AU outscored the Wildcats 47-42 in the second half shooting 55 percent in the second half and 47 percent overall while holding Fort Valley to just 35 percent from the floor. 

Sophomore guard Chase Cook led AU with a season-high of 22 points along with team-highs of 4 assists and 3 steals while fellow guard, senior Darius Williams played well off the bench scoring 15 points with 6 rebounds. Guards Cameron Sembly and junior Anthony Baker Jr. also finished in double-figure scoring with Baker scoring 11 points with 7 boards and 2 assists while Sembly had 10 points and played well defensively with three rebounds, two assists, 2\two blocks and two steals.

Senior forward Reggie Reynolds had a solid game scoring 8 points with 7 rebounds as he played all 40 minutes while freshman forward Nakia Johnson had 6 points and 3 boards and blocked two shots.

Allen improves to 2-13 on the season and 2-8 in the SIAC while FVSU falls to 8-9 overall and 6-4 in conference play. The Yellow Jackets will stay on the road to take on Albany State University on MLK Day Monday at 4:00 PM.
