Yellow Jacket Men Fall in Overtime at Albany

ALBANY, GA - The Allen University men's basketball team lost a heartbreaker in overtime 76-71 on the road Monday afternoon at SIAC foe Albany St. University on MLK Day.

AU took a 33-27 lead into the halftime break sooting 46 percent overall and 50 percent from three. Allen got out to a nine-point lead at 55-46 with 10 minutes to go in the game and the Jackets still held on to a 6-point advantage with just 1:51 to play at 63-57.  Unfortunately, AU could not close out the game as ASU rallied to take a 64-63 lead before junior guard Anthony Baker Jr. knocked down a free throw to send the game to overtime.

In the OT, ASU would get off to a strong start going on a 10-3 run and closing out the Jackets for the comeback win. Allen shot 43 percent overall for the game and 35 percent from long range while ASU shot 46 percent overall and 42 percent from three.

Baker led Allen with 15 points on 6 of 7 shooting with 3 rebounds and an assist while sophomore guard Chase Cook also registered a solid game scoring 13 points and assisting on a team-high six baskets. Cook  6 assists were a season-high while he also had a team-best three steals. Fellow guard Darius Williams also finished in double figures with 12 points and 6 rebounds.

Freshman forward Nakia Johnson then added 8 points and a team-high 6 rebounds while fellow guard Julian Smith added 7 points as well. Senior wing Cameron Sembly contributed 7 points with 3 rebounds and a steal while fellow senior forward Reggie Reynolds finished with 5 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.

Allen falls to 2-14 overall and 2-9 in the conference while ASU improves to 4-13 and 4-7 in the SIAC. The Jackets will next be in action on Saturday when they return home to host rival Benedict College at 4:00 pm.
