FORT VALLEY, GA - The Allen University women's basketball team used a strong first quarter to roll past SIAC foe Fort Valley State 73-59 on the road Saturday afternoon.
Allen was led by 18 points from junior guard
Keyshuna Fair to pick up their fourth straight win and move to 7-6 overall and 4-5 in the SIAC.
After FVSU cut it to 11-7 with 3 minutes to play in the first, Allen would then go on a 13-4 run to finish the quarter and lead 24-11. Fort Valley would then get to within 10 in the second quarter before Allen went on another 12-3 run to take a 36-17 lead and eventually head into the break up 38-25.
FVSU would then chip away at Allen's lead and get to within 8 points numerous times in the third quarter but Allen would extend their lead going on a 5-0 run to end the quarter on a
Kayla Pope layup and a K. Fair triple.
The Lady Cats again climbed to within five points of the Jackets at 54-59 with 6:30 to play in the game but Allen was having none of that rally. AU then promptly went on a 11-2 run over the next four minutes to put the game out of reach. Allen finished the game shooting an impressive 54 percent from the floor and 35 percent from three. AU held the Wildcats to just 37 percent shooting and grabbed 8 steals off 33 FVSU turnovers.
Senior forward
Cardrina Nolen had a solid game finishing with 12 points and four boards while fellow senior guard
Jazeem Bethea also had double figures with 10 points and 3 assists.
Junior guard
Destinee Jamison-Whitfield was the fourth Yellow Jacket to get double-digit points finishing with 10 also along with 2 assists, a block and 4 steals.
Freshman shooting guard
Tonai Moore went perfect form behind the arc as well with 9 points while Pope led the team with 5 assists and scored 6 points. Forward
Jaida Reddin led the team with 6 rebounds and had 2 steals and two buckets.
Allen will next stay on the road to face Albany State on Monday on MLK Day for a 2:00 pm tip-off.
