LAURINBURG, N.C. - The Allen University wrestling team rolled to three wins on Friday on the road at the St. Andrews Duals. Allen first cruised past West Va. Tech 39-9 as they only dropped two bouts. The Jackets then rolled past Patrick Henry CC (Va.) 42-16 before the main event against rival St. Andrews.
ALLEN 32, SAU 16
Allen fell behind early as 141 pounder
Quincy Gash dropped a heartbreaking 3-1 decision in sudden victory overtime. However, AU would take the lead on junior
Drevon Wallace's comeback fall in the second period at 149 lbs. Wallace was trailing his foe from SAU 3-2 in the second period before throwing him into a lateral drop to pick up the dramatic fall which turned the momentum into AU's favor with the Jackets going up 12-7.
After a close 6-0 loss from
Moise Toussaint at 157 lbs., Allen would then reel off the next four bouts for the decisive win 32-16. Allen improved to 11-3 on the season with the three wins while running their win streak to 6 straight matches.
At 165 lbs.,
Ya'Donnis Hardaway put the Jackets back in front with a dominating 15-0 technical fall before senior
Terrence Mills won by a second period fall in 4:40 to put Allen up 23-10. Junior All-American and top-ranked
Michael Jackson then kept the ball rolling with a match-sealing first period fall over his foe at 184 lbs.
Christian Poplous then capped off the win with a 10-5 decision victory at 197 lbs. Jackson is currently the top ranked wrestler at 184 lbs in the country in the NCWA.
ALLEN 39, WV TECH 9
AU picked up three forfeit wins against the Bears at 125 lbs., 149 and 157 while
Nyshaad Hannon won by first period fall at 133 and Gash pulled out a quality decision on win 6-3 at 141.
Hardaway picked up another fall at 165 lbs right at the first period buzzer before Jackson grabbed a workman-like 4-3 win at 184 lbs. Poplous then won 8-3 at 197 to close out the wins for the Jackets.
ALLEN 42, PHCC 16
In the quick matchup against the Patriots, Allen grabbed four straight forfeit wins at 133, 141, 149 and 157 before Hardaway won by injury default at 165 lbs with his first period takedown.
Jyheem Macklin then picked up a quick fall at 174 lbs. Jackson's forfeit win then closed out the bout at 184 lbs.
The Yellow Jackets will next continue their road gauntlet on Monday when they head to West Virginia to battle Bluefield St. at 1:00 on MLK Day.
