Clark Atlanta Pulls Away Late to Upend Allen Men

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Allen University men's basketball team fell just short at home on Monday evening as they were upended 67-61 by SIAC foe Clark Atlanta University.

A competitive first half saw Allen get down by six late at 22-28 before finishing the half on a 7-1 run as the teams went into the break tied at 29. AU would then extend their lead to nine early in the second half going up 42-33 on a Chase Cook three with just under 15 minutes to play. Unfortunately, Clark would then finish the half on a 34-19 run to pick up the win.

Clark got the win by outscoring the Yellow Jackets 38-32 in the second half shooting 43 percent from three while Allen managed to shoot just 37 percent overall and only 27 percent from three.

AU was led by a double-double from freshman forward Nakia Johnson as he scored a season-high 13 points while bringing down a team-best 11 rebounds for his first career double double.
Sophomore guard Chase Cook also scored 11 points with 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals as the duo were the only Jackets to finish in double-digit scoring.
Also playing well was junior point guard Anthony Baker Jr. with 8 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals as well.

The guard duo of Darius Williams and Shawn Jones Jr. also combined for 14 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals with each guard scoring 7 points apiece. Junior guard Julian Smith and sophomore forward Tyriq McAdoo also combined for 5 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

Allen falls to 1-13 overall and 1-8 in the conference while CAU improves to 3-11 and 2-7 in SIAC play. The Jackets will next be in action on Saturday when they travel down to Fort Valley State in Georgia for a 4:00 tip.
