CARTERSVILLE, GA - The Allen University volleyball team completed their five-match SIAC Crossover weekend by going 1-2 on Saturday and 2-3 overall on the weekend at the LakePoint Sports Complex.
Allen fell in 3 sets to Miles College (Ala.) (20-25, 23-25, 26-28) in their competitive first match Saturday morning before storming back to route Central St. (OH) 25-23, 25-11, 25-20 in their second match of the day. The Yellow Jackets then fell in four tough sets to Kentucky St. in their final match of the weekend. Allen took the first set from KSU 25-18 before falling 22-25, 23-25, and 15-25 to end their weekend.
Allen is now 9-6 on the season and 4-4 in the SIAC. The Yellow Jackets will now return home to host SIAC rival Benedict College on Wednesday night at 6:00 PM from Adams Gym.
In the Miles defeat, Allen was led by 10 kills from freshman OH
Maliyah Spencer as she hit .235 with an ace,  a block and 4 digs while junior setter
Kayla Chambliss posted another double -double of 23 assists and 13 digs along with 7 kills and an ace. Freshman RS
Cadence Leaks also had 8 kills while freshman libero
Jayla Neely tallied 16 digs. Hitters
Janae Greene and
Natalia Maciejewska then combined for 10 kills with Greene grabbing 7 digs.
Allen had 9 kills in the first set but Miles hit .333 with 16 kills. Each team then posted 14 kills in the second set while Allen then outscored Miles in the third set 16-12 in kills while hitting .173 but fell 28-26.
In the win over CSU, Allen was led by Spencer's 16 kills and .444 hitting percentage as well as Chambliss' 17 assists and 8 digs. Middle HitterÂ
Marlaysia Westbrook also played well with 7 kills and hit .455 while Leaks added 7 kills from the right side hitting .333 with a block. Setter
Jyla Clayton also played well posting 17 assists with 6 digs while Greene had 3 aces and 2 assists as the DS. Maciejewska hit an impressive .238 with 7 kills as well in the win.
Allen hit .217 in the first set with 15 kills to eke out the set before hitting an impressive .346 in the second with 10 kills and then hitting .314 in the third with 16 kills.Â
In the tough loss to KSU, Allen was led again by Spencer's 11 kills and .276 hitting percentage as well as Westbrook's 4 kills and 4 total blocks. Chambliss had another good game of 18 assists, 3 kills, 2 aces, and 8 digs while DS
Karrington Daughtry and libero Neely combined for 24 digs, 3 assists and 2 aces. Leaks again added 5 kills and 5 assisted blocks from the right side while Maciejewska ahd 7 kills. Freshman Middle
Jani Smith also had 4 kills with 3 digs and 2 blocks.
Allen totaled 8 kills in the first set hitting over.350 while posting 11 kills in the third set. However, KSU had double-digit kills in each set while hitting .207 for the match to get the win.
