COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Allen University volleyball team held on to oust non-conference foe Livingstone College in four sets on Tuesday evening from Adams Gymnasium.
The Jackets won the first two sets in convincing fashion by identical scores of 25-16. LC then pulled away late to top the Yellow Jackets 25-23 in set three before AU rallied to win the final set 25-23 going on a 5-1 run to end the match after trailing 22-20.
Allen totaled 11 kills while hitting .192 in the first set and holding LC to just 4 kills. Allen then hit .222 with 9 kills in the second set before LC came back with 11 kills in the third set. The Jackets then finished off the Bears in the final set with 11 kills hitting .128.
Junior setter
Kayla Chambliss posted another double-double recording team-highs of 19 assists and 14 digs along with 6 aces. Middle hitter
Marlaysia Westbrook played well offensively tallying a team-high 11 kills and hitting .381 with 5 blocks. Outside hitter
Natalia Maciejewska also recorded 10 kills with 7 digs and a block while right side hitter
Cadence Leaks posted 10 kills as well hitting .185 with 3 blocks.
Defensively, SIAC Defender of the Week, freshman libero
Jayla Neely posted 12 digs with 5 assists and 3 aces while DS Janae Green also had 12 digs. Setter
Jyla Clayton registered 13 assists with 8 digs as well.
Allen improves to 5-1 with the win while the Lady Bears fall to 0-2. AU will next stay home to host Morris College (S.C.) on Thursday night at 6:30 PM.
