JASPER, Ala. - For the first time since March 9, 2020, the Allen softball team competed in an official contest as the Yellow Jackets squared off with SIAC foes Lemoyne-Owen and Kentucky State Thursday at Memorial Park Softball Complex.
Allen dropped a nail-biter to Lemoyne-Owen, 16-15, in its first contest of the day, before falling to Kentucky State, 10-2, to close action on day one.
GAME ONE
- Lemoyne-Owen came out aggressive and jumped out to a 7-2 lead through three innings.
- After a sluggish start, the Yellow Jackets responded with three runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth inning.
- Allen held a 9-8 lead through five innings.
- The remainder of the game was tightly contested as both teams continued to shine offensively.
- Daeshonna Beckham-Thomas pitched all eight innings and threw over 200 pitches.
- Lemoyne-Owen held a 15-13 lead entering the bottom of the seventh, but Allen got two much-needed runs in the bottom of the frame to force extra innings.
- Lemoyne-Owen went on to win the contest, 16-15, after scoring one run in the eighth inning.
GAME TWO
- In the early going, Allen's strong offensive play from game one carried over into its second contest against Kentucky State as Breighana Spencer quickly hit a single to get on base.
- Spencer then stole second and advanced to third on a ground out; however, she was left on base.
- Dominance then ensued from Kentucky State as it logged nine runs in the first.
- Allen scored in the third inning, and again in the fifth, but was unable to significantly cut into the lead and fell 10-2.

The Yellow Jackets will look to bounce back tomorrow when they face Miles and Spring Hill during day two of the SIAC Crossover.
