RALEIGH, N.C. - The Allen University men's basketball team dropped a close game on the road Saturday in Raleigh falling 67-63 at CIAA foe St. Augustine's University .
St. Aug's got out to a fast start in this one grabbing a 13-0 lead before extending it to 21-6 with 7 minutes to play. However, Allen would not quit and finished the half on a 20- 10 run including a 7-0 run in the final minute to trail by just five points (26-31) heading into the break.
Each time the Falcons tried to pull away in the second half, the Yellow Jackets fought back as they managed to get within two points numerous times. Allen then clawed to within one point 62-61 on Anthony Baker's jumper with 46 seconds remaining.
Then, an SAU turnover on the following possession resulted in a Yellow Jackets floater from senior guard Darius Williams to put AU ahead by one 63-62 with 25 seconds to go.
Unfortunately, the Falcons knocked down the go-ahead basket on an open layup with 13 seconds remaining before St. Aug's closed it out at the free throw line for the close win.
Senior guard
Cameron Sembly led the Yellow Jackets with 19 points on 7 of 12 shooting along with 5 rebounds while junior point guard
Anthony Baker Jr. played well also scoring 13 points with 2 steals and an assist.
Also finishing in double-figure scoring was junior forward
Tyriq McAdoo with 11 points and 5 rebounds while Williams finished with 9 points and a team-best 6 rebounds. Freshman guard
Mike Best also scored 5 points with 2 steals and 2 boards.
Allen falls to 1-7 on the year while SAU improves to 3-6. Allen will next have the week off before heading to Alabama to battle SIAC West foe Miles College next Saturday at 3 PM.
