COLUMBIA,
S.C. - The Allen University volleyball team saw their postseason hopes dashed as they fell in three sets at rival Benedict College on Thursday evening in HRC Arena.
BC won the first set 25-17 with 13 kills and then won the second 25-16 finishing the set on a 9-1 run after Allen themselves had gone on a 5-1 run to get within 16-15. The Lady Tigers hit .313 in the set with 12 kills while Allen posted 11 kills. BC then dominated the final set taking it 25-13 hitting .227.
Benedict improves to 14-12 on the year and 8-11 in the conference while Allen falls to 13-16 overall and 6-12 in conference. BC will now enter the SIAC Conference Tournament as the East #4 seed while AU drops to 6th in the division. A win tomorrow night would allow Allen to tie Clark Atlanta for 5th in the final division standings.
Freshman OH Janae Greene led the Yellow Jackets with 8 kills and 4 digs while fellow freshman outside hitter Maliyah Spencer also posted 7 kills with 4 digs, a solo block and a team-best three aces. Junior setter Kayla Chambliss registered 15 assists with 6 digs while freshman libero Jayla Neely had five digs, a kill, and an assist.
Freshman DS Jyla Clayton led the team with eight digs while middle hitters Marlaysia Westbrook and freshman Cadence Leaks combined for 4 kills and three digs with Westbrook leading the way with 3 solo blocks.
AU will close out their season on Friday night hosting Albany St. at 6:30 PM in their final match of the season.
