COLUMBIA,
S.C. - The Allen University volleyball team closed out their season at home on Friday evening falling to East Division powerhouse Albany St. Univ. (Ga.) 3-0 from Adams Gym.
Albany stormed through the first set 25-11 before grabbing the second set 25-12 hitting .267. Allen then got out to a better start in the third set leading 6-5 early before reeling off three straight points on back to back kills from freshman OH Janae Greene to tie the match at 9 points apiece. Allen would then get to within 16-14 but could get no closer as ASU would close out the set and the match on a 9-3 run for the win. ASU recorded 18 kills in the final set hitting .289 while Allen only managed 16 kills throughout the match.
Greene led the Jackets with 7 kills and only one error as she hit .222 with 8 digs as well. Freshman OH Maliyah Spencer then added 4 kills with 3 digs while freshman right side hitter Cadence Leaks also had 4 kills along with 2 digs and a block.
Junior setter Kayla Chambliss registered 12 assists with 5 digs, a block and a kill while freshman libero Jayla Neely then led the team with 10 digs along with freshman DS Jyla Clayton also adding nine digs. Middle hitters Jani Smith and Marlaysia Westbrook combined for 5 blocks as well
ASU improves to 18-7 overall and 16-3 in the conference and will enter the SIAC Tournament next week as the #2 seed out of the East. Allen closes out their second season under coach
Danielle Robinson with a 13-17 record and 6-13 in the conference.
