S.C. - The Allen University wrestling team rolled to a 36-15 win over rival St. Andrews University from Adams Gym Tuesday evening.
Junior
Justin Kelly got things started for the Jackets cruising to the win as he pinned his foe in a tidy 55 seconds to give Allen a 6-0 lead. After a forfeit win to junior
Nyshaad Hannon at 133 lbs., SAU then got on the board with an 8-2 win over
Quincy Gash at 141 lbs.
Junior
Drevon Wallace then got Allen back on track pinning his foe right at the tail end of the first period with a tilt at the 2:57 mark. Junior Moises Toussaint then put Allen up 24-3 as he also won by forfeit at 157 lbs. Then, sophomore
Ya'Donnis Hardaway got reversed in the second period and eventually pinned at the 4:05 mark at 165 lbs. St. Andrews would then get their last win of the dual at 174 lbs as Allen's seniorÂ
Jaheem Macklin had to default due to injury cutting the score to 24-15.
However, 2022 junior All-American
Michael Jackson then stepped up and won his bout by forfeit as well at 184 lbs. to clinch the win for the Yellow Jackets. Junior
Christian Poplous then put on a thrilling match at 197 lbs as he came back from a late 9-7 deficit to get a last second takedown for the 10-9 decision win. Finally, freshman heavyweightÂ
Emmanuel Velasquez closed out the win for Allen by also rallying to win his match in overtime 6-4. He trailed 3-1 late in the third period before getting a late takedown and stall call to send the match to sudden victory. As the seconds were ticking off the clock in OT, Velasquez used a strong double-leg takedown to get the hard-earned win as AU won 7 of 10 bouts on the night.
AU now improves to 2-1 on the year and drops SAU to 0-5. Allen will next have the holiday off before traveling up to Clemson, SCÂ on Dec. 4 for the Clemson Duals.
