SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Allen University men's basketball team could not overcome a strong first half by the Converse University Valkyries as CU went on to defeat the Jacket men 85-62 on Saturday.
Converse shot 51 percent in the first half while making six threes and they held the Yellow Jackets to just 35 percent shooting and only 18 percent from long range as CU led 45-26 at the break.
In the second half, Allen would go on a prolonged 30-21 run to climb to within 11 points at 67-56 at the 5:26 mark on a fast-break three-pointer from senior guard
Darius Williams, but unfortunately could get no closer as they fell 40-36 in the half. Allen would shoot 39 percent overall for the game but only 22 percent from three-point range. Converse shot 52 percent overall and 34 percent from three.
Senior wing
Cameron Sembly led the Jackets with 26 points on 12 of 15 shooting while grabbing 5 rebounds with 2 steals. Also finishing in double-figures was sophomore guard
Shawn Jones, Jr. with 12 points on 5 of 8 shooting along with a team-best 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
Junior forward
Mohamed Alkadi also added 8 points, a block, and 4 rebounds while sophomore guard
Chase Cook led with 5 assists and 3 steals.
Allen falls to 0-3 on the year while Converse improves to 1-3. The AU men will not be in action again until next weekend when they head to Tennessee to battle Lemoyne Owen College next Saturday at 3 PM.
