ORANGEBURG,
S.C. - The Allen University men's basketball team made the short trek south to battle CIAA foe Claflin University but could not come away with the victory as AU fell 89-61.
Claflin shot 60 percent in the first half as they ran out to a big 47-30 lead at the break holding Allen to just 38 percent shooting and only 3 of 10 from deep.
In the second half, CU came out firing knocking down threes to increase their advantage to 25 just 6 minutes into the second half.
Allen would get the game back under 20 as they trailed by 19 with 7:40 to play, but unfortunately could get no closer as the Panthers rolled to the win. CU shot 51.5 percent for the game while limiting AU to just 38 percent shooting for the game.
AU was led by 17 points from senior guard
Darius Williams as he shot 3 of 5 from behind the arc. He also had 3 assists to tie for the team lead while junior guard
Anthony Baker, Jr. led the team with 7 rebounds and a steal along with scoring 10 points and 3 assists. Junior guard
Tyriq McAdoo was then the final member of the trio of Yellow Jackets to finish in double-figure scoring registering 12 points with 5 boards and a steal.
Senior forward
Cameron Sembly also added 9 points and 6 rebounds. Fellow forward, junior
Mohamed Alkadi also brought down five rebounds while scoring 5 points.
Allen falls to 0-2 on the year while Claflin improves to 1-0. The Jackets will return to action on Saturday when they head to upstate SC to battle Converse College with a 4:00 tip.
