Men's Basketball Drop Opener at UNC-Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Allen University men's basketball team dropped their season opener on the road at Div. I UNC-Wilmington 104-55 on Friday evening.

UNCW, the defending CAA Champs, played very well in the first half shooting 70 percent from the floor and making eight 3-pointers on 53 percent shooting to take a 59-23 halftime lead. Allen shot 45 percent in the first half but the Seahawks made 15 more baskets to pull ahead.

In the second half, Wilmington shot just 50 percent from the floor and only made four threes as Allen's defense improved as the game wore on. Allen made more threes than UNCW in the second half making five and shooting 45 percent from behind the arc.

Allen finished the game shooting 40 percent from the floor and 43 percent from three led by 19 points on 6 of 10 shooting from senior guard Darius Williams. Williams also led the team in assists with four while tying for the team lead in rebounds with four as well. Guard freshman Peyton Weathersby then finished with 13 points while senior forward Cameron Sembly scored 11 points to complete the trio of Yellow Jackets in double-figure scoring.

Allen will next be in action on Monday night when they make the short trip down to Orangeburg to face Claflin University at 7:00 pm.
