COLUMBIA, 
S.C. - The Allen University volleyball team fell 3-0 at home to Savannah St. in SIAC action from Adams Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
Savannah St. took control in the first set to pull away and win it 25-19 on 15 kills hitting .242. The Lady Tigers then got out to a fast start in the second set leading 10-3 and running away for a 25-18 win using their power hitting for 17 kills while Allen only managed 8 kills but still hit .250. Allen then got out to a good start in the third set leading 5-1 and 15-11. AU then led 22-20 late in the third until SSU went on a match-clinching 6-2 run to steal the set 26-24 and take the match. 
Savannah hit an impressive .462 on 20 kills in the third while Allen hit .302 themselves with 19 kills, but couldn't get past the Tigers. Allen falls to 13-15 overall and 6-11 in conference while Savannah improves to 12-10 and 12-6 in conference.
Freshman OH Maliyah Spencer, who was named SIAC Newcomer of the Week Tuesday, led Allen with 12 kills while hitting .375 with four digs while fellow freshman OH Janae Greene had her best night of the season posting 8 kills with 7 digs, a block and an ace while hitting .286.  
Junior setter Kayla Chambliss, who was also named SIAC Setter of the Week today, led Allen with 29 assists and 10 digs along with three kills and two aces. 
Freshman libero Jayla Neely, who was then named SIAC Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday as well, led AU with 11 digs along with four assists. 
Middle hitters Jani Smith and junior Marlaysia Westbrook also played well at net as the freshman Smith had five kills and just one error to hit .333 while Westbrook had six kills and hit .500 with three blocks.
Allen will next go across the street to battle rival Benedict on Thursday at 6:30 pm in a pivotal conference game that will determine who qualifies for the SIAC Conference Tournament. Please come over and support your Lady Yellow Jackets!
