Volleyball Comes Back to Oust Paine in Five

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Allen University volleyball rallied from a 2 sets to 1 deficit to edge Paine College (Ga.) 15-10 in the fifth set on the road Saturday afternoon.

PC edged the Jackets 26-24 in the first set as each team posted 11 kills. AU then came back to take the second set 25-20 on 12 kills hitting .152 before Paine took the third 25-19 as they hit .333 on 10 kills. Allen then rallied again and won the fourth set 25-20 on a match-high 14 kills hitting .174 before AU tallied 8 kills and hit 262 in the decisive 5th set.  Allen took a 6-3 lead in the 5th before going up 10-7. Paine registered two kills before Allen then clinched the match on a 5-1 run.

Freshman outside hitter Maliyah Spencer led Allen with 18 kills hitting .333 while junior setter Kayla Chambliss recorded yet another double-double with team-highs of 42 assists and 19 digs along with 4 kills and 4 aces for the Jackets.
Freshman middle Jani Smith also played well tallying a season-high of 10 kills, 2 blocks, and 4 digs while hitting .240. Junior OH Natalia Maciejewska then added 11 kills and hit .159 with 3 digs while fellow junior middle Marlaysia Westbrook recorded 7 kills and a solo block. 

Freshman libero Jayla Neely and freshman DS Mattie Riddick then combined for 29 digs with Neely adding 6 assists and Riddick posting two aces. Fellow freshman setter/DS Jyla Clayton also played well defensively registering a season-high 17 digs with 5 assists and an ace.

Allen improves to 13-14 with the win while Paine drops to 2-19. AU will now return home to host Savannah St. on Tuesday at 6:30 pm.

ALLEN FALLS AT ALBANY STATE
ALBANY, Ga.
- Before their win over Paine on Saturday, Allen battled SIAC East Division leader Albany St. (GA) on the road Friday evening but fell in three tough sets. ASU won 25-14, 25-9, and 25-12.

AU only managed 15 kills in the match while ASU had 15 kills in the first set hitting .250. ASU then hit an impressive .418 in the final set with 14 kills to clinch the match. Allen was led by 5 kills and a block from Maciejewska as well as 10 assists and 7 digs from Chambliss. Junior middle Aleyah Maddox then led with 3 blocks and 3 kills while Spencer also contributed four kills.

ASU improves to 15-6 overall and 14-2 in the SIAC. Allen falls to 6-10 in the conference.
