Shawn Jones is currently a Sports Management and Business Admin. instructor and assistant men's basketball coach at Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina.
Jones is a native of Allendale, South Carolina. He attended Allendale-Fairfax High School, where he was a three-time All-Region player, a 1994 All-State selection, and a member of the varsity boys' basketball team for four years.
Jones attended Garden City Community College from 1994 to 1996, where he was team captain during the 1995-96 season. He then transferred to Southwest Baptist University, where he was a three-year starter and averaged 13.2 points per game. He was also team captain for two years.
After graduating from Southwest Baptist University in 1999, Jones returned home to Allendale to start his coaching career. His first year as JV boys coach at Allendale-Fairfax High School, his team posted a perfect 16-0 record.
The next two years, Jones became the head boys' varsity coach, posting a 41-19 record and leading the team to its first-ever state championship in 2002. Jones was named the 2002 High School Coach of the Year and 2002 Sport Report Coach of the Year.
Jones then moved on to Lower Richland High School as the varsity assistant coach, where the team won a lower state championship in 2004. He also coached at Newberry College during the 2004-2005 season as an assistant.
In 2007, Jones joined the Benedict Tigers as an assistant coach. That season, the Tigers won the SIAC regular season and tournament, and advanced to the NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen.
In 2008, Jones was given an opportunity to coach on the national level. He served as the head coach of the Jr. National team and as an assistant coach for the National team of Qatar. He coached the Qatari Jr. Team to a 2-2 record in Singapore for the 2009 Jr. Asian Games.
Jones returned to the Benedict Tigers in 2009 and helped the team win three SIAC Conference Championships and one SIAC Tournament Championship, which earned the Tigers four trips to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament.
In 2014, Jones was named the head men's basketball coach at Allen University. In his one season at the helm, his team had a 12-15 record and lost in the second round of the conference tournament.
In 2015, Jones became the head coach at Sumter High School in Sumter, South Carolina. As a high school head coach, his overall record is 93-25. In his two years at Sumter, the Gamecocks posted a 35-14 record, won two conference championships, and Jones was named coach of the year for the conference two years in a row.
