Montaze McRae is entering his 17th year overall in coaching and his 10th season in the collegiate ranks, while embarking on his 5th season with the Allen University football program. He serves as an assistant coach responsible for developing the offensive line and tight ends while also leading all talent acquisition as the Recruiting Coordinator.
Throughout his tenure at Allen, McRae has consistently built and developed all-conference talent up front. In 2025, he coached two All-SIAC linemen in Chance Bush and Zyrus Craft. Ahead of the 2026 season, Bush was named to the prestigious Player of the Year Watch List. Previously in 2023, McRae coached center Elijah Shareef to 1st Team All-Conference honors.
Prior to joining the staff at Allen, McRae served as the Offensive Line/Tight End Coach, Academic Liaison, and Recruiting Coordinator at Johnson C. Smith University. Before JCSU, he held the position of Offensive Line Coach at Fayetteville State University. Across his collegiate coaching career, McRae's offensive lines paved the way for three Rookie of the Year running backs who each produced 1,000-yard rushing seasons, including NFL running back Emanuel Wilson.
McRae gained his foundational coaching experience at the high school level at Southern Durham High, serving seven seasons (2009–2015) as offensive line coach. During that stretch, he developed over 15 all-conference linemen, won three Big 8 Conference Championships (2013–2015), and captured the 2015 3-AA State Championship.
A native of Raeford, N.C., McRae played college football at North Carolina A&T State University, earning a Bachelor of Agricultural Education in 2007. A three-year letter winner as an Aggie, he played every position along the offensive line before playing professionally in the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA). McRae is an active member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated.Â
He is the proud father of twin sons, Matthew and Trenten.
