ATLANTA, G.A. --- The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) announced Tuesday that for the first time this season, Allen women's basketball sophomore forward
Peighton Jambor has been named SIAC Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Week.
Across Allen's three games last week, Jambor averaged 11.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. She recorded her second and third double-doubles of the season against Albany State (2/17) and Clark Atlanta (2/20). In the Yellow Jackets' win at Albany State, Jambor totaled 10 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocks. Then three days later at CAU, Jambor scored 12 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. To close out the week, Jambor recorded her ninth game this season scoring double-figures, and fourth consecutive contest, with 12 points to help Allen sweep the regular season series against Benedict.
Jambor, a Moncks Corner, South Carolina native, is averaging 7.4 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game in her first season at Allen. She also co-leads the SIAC with 1.3 blocks per game.
"Peighton is certainly deserving of this honor as she has continued to work hard at developing her game all season," said Allen head women's basketball coach Olivia Gaines. "How Peighton has played during our recent stretch of games has been a difference maker for us, and I know she'll continue to play a large role in our chase for a championship."
Allen concludes their regular season Wednesday, February 26 against Clark Atlanta. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside John Hurst Adams Gymnasium in Columbia, South Carolina.
